 Appalachian State 7, Charlotte 5
The 49ers lost to divisional rival, Appalachian State on Friday 7-5. Tied at five going into the third period, the Mountaineers scored two goals in the final period for the win.
The line of Stephen Carbone, Drew Craig and George Boukas continue to improve; producing three of the Niners goals.
Collin Moyer scored his second goal of the season the 49ers while on the man advantage at 10:02 in the first period.
Andrew Morgan added a goal (assist Brian Quedenfeld) to give the 49ers the lead at 15:47 in the second. The lead was short lived, as Curt Omlie completed his hat trick for ASU at 13:12. Tied at five, the teams played over 20 minutes of scoreless hockey, before Casey Kransen scored for ASU at 10:05 in the final periord.
Georgia Tech 2, Charlotte 1
Saturday, Charlotte fell to top ACHA regional goaltender, Maxx Lucas, and the Yellow Jackets, 2-1.
Both teams had chances to score, but Lucas and Niner's goalkeeper, Chris Bamford, were exceptional in net. Josh LeClair scored the lone goal for Charlotte in the non-conference loss on an assist from Billy Estes.
First year defensmen, Jamie Roswell, Chris Dembofsky and Moyer have been a welcome addition along the 49ers blueline. The defensive unit has become more agressive and had better positioning over the last two weekends.
A successful trip to Charleston on October 23-24 provided three points from The Citadel (a win and a overtime loss); the 49ers are now 2-1-1 in the BRHC Carolina Division (2-4-1 overall). |
